This creative and technically driven role focuses on producing high-fidelity, cinematic 3D animations that transform complex scientific, engineering, and mission-driven concepts into clear and visually compelling narratives. You will work across the full 3D production pipeline, from modeling and animation through rendering and compositing, contributing to impactful visual storytelling used in technical and strategic communications. The role blends artistic craftsmanship with scientific accuracy, requiring close collaboration with creative directors, producers, engineers, and subject-matter experts. You will help translate real-world systems—such as spacecraft, mechanical processes, and planetary environments—into immersive visual experiences. The environment is highly collaborative and detail-oriented, with an emphasis on precision, iteration, and quality execution. This is a remote U.S.-based position suited for an experienced animator who thrives at the intersection of creativity and technical complexity.
Accountabilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for creating end-to-end cinematic 3D animations that accurately and compellingly communicate complex technical and scientific concepts.
- Develop high-quality 3D animations from pre-visualization and storyboards through final rendering and compositing
- Model, texture, shade, and light assets for scientific, engineering, and mission-based visualizations
- Rig and animate mechanical systems, spacecraft, robotic systems, and technical processes
- Build realistic environments, including planetary and space-based scenes, to support narrative storytelling
- Render and composite final animation sequences for video and multimedia deliverables
- Collaborate with creative and technical teams to ensure visual accuracy and narrative clarity
- Translate complex scientific or engineering concepts into clear and engaging visual storytelling
- Iterate on creative outputs based on feedback from directors, producers, and subject-matter experts
Requirements:
This role requires strong full-pipeline 3D production expertise, cinematic storytelling ability, and experience translating technical or scientific concepts into high-quality visual content.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating cinematic 3D animation and visualization work
- Experience across the full 3D pipeline including modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, animation, rendering, and compositing
- Proficiency with tools such as Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine, and/or After Effects
- Strong understanding of motion, timing, composition, lighting, and cinematic storytelling principles
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating within structured production pipelines
- Experience working from storyboards, animatics, or previsualization through final delivery
- Experience with CAD data conversion into production-ready 3D assets is a plus
- Background in animating mechanical systems, robotics, or engineering processes is highly desirable
- Familiarity with real-time rendering workflows, particularly Unreal Engine, is a plus
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, scientists, and technical stakeholders
