Job Title: PCB Design Automation Engineer
Location: North Reading, MA (100% onsite)
Duration: 3-4 Months Contract
Pay rate: $65.00 - 80.00 per hour on W2

Job Description:
  • Client’s Hardware Engineering team is looking for a contract engineer to finish a Python tool that automates PCB design constraint entry, a slow and error-prone manual step in our board design flow today.
  • The tool combines a standardized Excel input workbook with the exported netlist and the stackup and impedance table, then generates Allegro Constraint Compiler (Client) tables that load into Cadence Allegro Constraint Manager. A proof of concept is already in place.
  • You will take it over, deliver a tested and documented tool, and work closely with the hardware engineers and PCB designers who will use it.
  • Take over the existing proof-of-concept code and complete the end-to-end flow from input workbook to Constraint Manager.
  • Extend the tool to cover every interface and constraint type in the input workbook, from high-speed digital buses to high-voltage, analog, and power nets.
  • Build a simple user interface, either a GUI or guided prompts, for running the tool.
  • Test the tool on current and legacy board designs, comparing its output with hand-entered constraints and resolving discrepancies.
  • Document the tool and help prepare training for its users.

Must Have:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in PCB design, PCB layout, or EDA tool automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Cadence Allegro Constraint Manager.
  • A solid understanding of high-speed and mixed-signal PCB constraints, such as impedance, differential pairs, length matching, spacing, and HV creepage and clearance.
  • Strong Python skills, including working with Excel and CSV data.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code) and Git.
  • Ability to work independently on a time-bound project, with strong written communication skills.

Preferred:
  • Experience with Allegro Constraint Compiler (Client) or Cadence SKILL.
  • Background in automated test equipment or other dense multilayer boards that combine digital, analog, and RF circuitry.
