Prompt Engineer - Central Government

Role: Prompt Engineer X 2
Contract Length: 6 months
Location: Hybrid/London, Bristol or Manchester - Base location can be any 3, however there is an expectation to be in the London office 1-3 days a week however that may not be every week
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Intermediary: Up to £775 per day
Security Clearance: BPSS or SC

Spinwell is recruiting for a Prompt Engineer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PROMPT ENGINEER

• Design and implement AI agents using Copilot, planning algorithms, and decision-making frameworks.
• Develop agent architectures that support autonomy, interactivity, and task completion.
• Integrate agents into applications, APIs, or workflows (e.g., chatbots, copilots, automation tools).
• Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product teams to iterate on agent capabilities.
• Optimise agent behaviour through feedback loops, reinforcement learning, or user interaction.
• Monitor performance, conduct evaluations, and implement safety and guardrail mechanisms.
• Maintain thorough documentation of agent logic, design decisions, and dependencies.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE PROMPT ENGINEER

• Designing, developing, and refining prompts for copilots and AI agents to maximise accuracy, safety, and user value.
• Analysing model outputs and conversational logs to identify improvement opportunities and failure points.
• Developing and maintaining prompt libraries, templates, and best practice documentation.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to align prompt engineering with business goals and user needs.
• Implementing prompt evaluation frameworks and metrics to assess performance and reliability.
• Staying up to date with the latest advancements in LLMs, prompt engineering, and agentic AI.
• Presenting findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
