Part -Time | 12 month position |  SUNY Reconnect Grant

The Reconnect Registrar Specialist is responsible for working with SUNY Reconnect students to help navigate credit for prior learning options and processes, as well as help students create/update educational plans. This position will also assist with Registrar Office processing of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL). This position is 20 hours per week.

Occasional meetings at different SUNY CCC locations and travel to regional employers and/or recruiting events may be required. Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing.  Occasional lifting may be required in setting up for events. Typical office and indoor building environments, occasional outdoor activity may be required. Essential Functions

Student Assistance with CPL Information and Process Support and Educational Plans (55%) - 

  • Follow up on prospective student inquiries and applications for the SUNY Reconnect program who indicate interest in Credit for Prior Learning (CPL);
  • Explain CPL information and processes and provide students guidance which types to pursue;
  • Provide students CPL process support;
  • Program changes: verifying advisor approval of request and updating student record
  • Cross Registration: approving and applying registration; follow-through with transcript uploads/downloads for home students and host students
  • Help students create/update educational plans;
  • Assist students with College CPL processes and resources (i.e. accessing funds for CPL fees)
  • Ongoing communication with campus lead for SUNY Reconnect
  • Participate in SUNY Reconnect recruitment events/information sessions as needed
  • Collaborate and maintain good working relationships within the college community as well as with the community at large, specifically with regional employers who are supporting employees in the Reconnect program.  

Registrar Office Operations (35%) - 
  • Assist the Registrar’s Office in all day-to-day operations in regards to the management of student records, registration, grading, enrollment verification, graduation verification, transcript processing, and records management
  • Assist in the updates to Banner regarding Credit for Prior Learning and College Transfer data to adhere to new SUNY Guidelines on Credit for Prior Learning/Prior Learning Assessment processes and reporting along with Non-Credit to Credit conversions/cross-walking
  • Assist office with responding to registrar@ emails from students, faculty, and staff; answering phone calls, returning voicemails

Other (10%) - 
  • Assist with student information/progress/tracking for grant reporting;
  • Assist with general communication to Reconnect students;
  • Provide information for grant reporting as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of community college philosophy and familiarity with challenges of adult student populations.
  • Ability to be a high functioning user of Google and/or Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Ability to be a high functioning user of a student information system.
  • Knowledge of academic programs, policy, and procedures; databases; and records appropriate to an educational setting, including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively and efficiently in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to take initiative, be self-directed, and ability to follow through with completion of tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • One year of experience in student services or student data related area 
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including evening/weekend) to meet student availability
  • Remote Internet access for virtual meetings/student coaching sessions
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for travel to off-campus sites, as required.

Preferred Qualification

  • Knowledge of the various types of Credit for Prior Learning and resources offered at SUNY CCC.
  • Familiarity with administrative and self-service use of Ellucian Banner, SUNY CCC’s student information system
